Advisor: Mx. Chayette (instrumental and general music teacher)
Students can begin taking lessons on a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass) in 4th grade (Mx. Chayette will be in touch about sign-ups).They attend one 30-minute pull-out lesson once every 6-day cycle, during which they learn and practice fundamental playing techniques and music reading skills.
Beginning Strings musicians apply these skills to preparing and performing short pieces throughout the year in class, and perform on evening concerts twice a year: the Winter Concert (December) and Spring Concert (May).
In 5th-8th grade they have the opportunity to play in Intermediate Orchestra, Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and various small ensembles. All of these more advanced ensembles include small-group instruction, large ensemble rehearsals, and additional performance opportunities.
